Skincare survival tips this Festive Season
Christmas may be the happiest time of the year but it can also be a taxing time on your skin. While you’re busy juggling your work and social calendar your skin might be struggling to keep up.
Follow our simple tips to ensure you maintain your glowing skin goals well into the new year.
- Hydration Station
At Face Plus Medispa we believe the key to healthy skin is hydrated skin. Whether you’re enjoying your Christmas party, sitting at your office or relaxing at the beach with your friends…make sure to take your water bottle with you everywhere.
Christmas Party tip:
For every alcoholic drink have 3 glasses of water. Not only will this help to flush your system, but you’ll be too busy running to the bathroom to bother reaching for another champagne.
During December, use your desk time as an enforced detox time. Set yourself a goal to drink 2 litres of water by lunch time. I always add a splash of apple cider vinegar to my drink bottle so I get the added alkaline benefits.
If you are out and about enjoying some Vitamin D make sure to stay topically and internally hydrated. Pack 2 water bottles; one frozen and one from the fridge.
- Allow yourself maximum 2 cheat meals a week
Christmas might seem like the perfect time to over indulge but with it coinciding with a Sydney Summer the last thing you want is a bloated beach belly and breakout. If your Christmas parties involve lots of glazed hams and pavlova’s make sure to follow up with a healthy salad and some seasonal fruit.
We’re so lucky to have access to such beautiful fresh produce over Christmas, so get creative in the kitchen and swap the heavy winter Christmas traditions with some light and calorie friendly options. Your waistline and complexion will thank you.
- Slip, Slop Slap
If the alcohol and food won’t get you at Christmas the harsh Aussie ray’s will. While we’re all for enjoying the great outdoors this time of year, it’s also important to protect yourself from the sun. Make sure you consistently reapply your face and body SPF throughout the day and especially between each swim or sweat session.
- Keep your stress in check
Christmas should be about friends and families coming together to celebrate…but let’s face it the silly season also brings with it some unnecessary stress. Whether it’s shopping for the perfect gift, cramming in your work and social life or trying to execute the perfect Christmas party it’s natural to feel a little overwhelmed this time of the year. Our motto is slow down and get on summer time. Too much stress with increase your cortisol levels which can lead to breakouts and premature ageing.
- Keep up with your skincare routine
Sure, you might be sleeping in on the weekends and staying out past your typical bedtime…but make sure your beauty routine doesn’t fall victim to your new relaxed schedule. The biggest skin sin to avoid this silly season is going to bed with makeup on. As soon as you get home double cleanse your skin, tone and moisturise before hitting the hay. While you’re at it have a big glass of water to aid in your digestion and clear complexion.
Enjoy Christmas in moderation this year….your skin will thank you for it.
